License Exchange

Do you have a valid driver's license from a non-EU or non-EEA country and plan on staying in Austria for more than six months? Then your license will have to be exchanged into an Austrian driver's license if you want to continue driving legally in the country.

The exchange process is fairly straight forward, but it takes a bit of time and requires that you pass a practical driving exam. That said, driving in another country is often different from what you are used to - with different traffic rules and different traffic signs (sometimes even the side of the road you drive on is different…) and a test situation is always a bit special. We have therefore developed exchange educations which ensure that you are well prepared to drive on Austrian roads and will successfully guide you through the practical driving exam – whether you want a license for a car or a motorcycle.

More information about our exchange educations you find in our educational plans. Detailed information about the costs is provided in our Infosheets.
